Create strikethrough text

Strikethrough text is everywhere in casual writing — jokes, edits, ironic asides. Most apps do not offer a strikethrough button. The Strikethrough Text Generator inserts a Unicode combining long stroke overlay (`U+0336`) after each character so the result behaves like real strikethrough text.

How strikethrough text works

Each character in your input gets a combining mark appended after it. The combining mark renders on top of the previous character, which produces the strikethrough effect. Because the combining mark is part of the text, copying the result keeps the line intact, unlike CSS-based strikethrough that disappears when copied.

Where it works

  • Twitter / X posts and bios
  • Discord messages and nicknames
  • Instagram captions
  • Reddit comments (depending on the client)
  • Email and notes apps

Why the line may look uneven

Some fonts position the combining mark slightly above or below the expected baseline, which can create a small jump on tall letters. Emoji and other complex characters do not always combine well with the overlay. Use a single style at a time and check the preview before posting.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why does the strikethrough sometimes look broken?

Combining marks rely on the font for placement. Some fonts misalign the line on uppercase letters or emoji. Try a different combining mark style.

Will the strikethrough survive when I paste the text?

Yes. Unlike CSS strikethrough, the line is part of the text, so it travels with the copied content.

Can I do double strikethrough?

Yes. The tool supports double strikethrough, wavy, slash, and underline overlays.

Does it work on emoji?

Combining marks behave inconsistently on emoji. The result depends on the renderer, so test before posting.

Does GlyphCopy keep my text?

No. Everything is computed in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
